Project Overview
Since it was constructed in 1949, the 186,971 SF Reynolds Coliseum had not had a major makeover. That changed in 2016 with the completion of this $35 million renovation project. The renovation included updates to classrooms and offices, the replacement of windows, and the addition of elevators. Air conditioning also was added to the facility for the first time. Reclaimed flooring was used from the basketball court on the first floor and in the restrooms and women’s basketball coaches offices on the second floor. Eight new AHUs were added in the basement, along new mechanical flooring, ticket booths, and telescopic seating. The exterior got a facelift, too. This ensured the building flowed with the adjacent Talley Student Union, while still maintaining the building’s 67-year history.
In addition to being the home of the Wolfpack womens basketball, gymnastics, volleyball, wrestling, rifle teams and ROTC program, Reynolds Coliseum now houses the new “Walk of Fame.” This space honors Wolfpack athletes and history. This includes a Grand Hallway to house the NC State Hall of Fame with a row of four stainless steel wolf sculptures running up the stairs, multimedia displays of university and athletic legacies, and space for events. It is located at the north end of the coliseum and takes up a third of the original setup for basketball. The court and end-zone seating were pushed to the south end of the building. This area of the coliseum also features a “look-over” area, which provides a unique view from the open concourse. The concourse, which is as narrow as six feet in some spots, expands to as wide as 35 feet in certain areas. The past capacity for basketball was just less than 10,000, but it is now approximately 5,500.
