Next Education Project

Location: Hwy 54, Morrisville, NC
Architect: Perkins + Will
Contract Amount: $41 million

Wake Technical Community College is creating an innovative, modern campus that provides a next-generation learning environment to individuals and corporations in western Wake County and the Research Triangle Park. With classes such as “3D Training and Stimulation” and “Data Storage and Virtualization,” this campus will be focused on technology. This five phase, 94-acre initiative will include nine buildings totaling 800,000 square feet and four parking decks. Eventually, the campus will serve 7,000 students.

Holt Brothers Construction is partnered with Clancy & Theys Construction Company to complete Phase One of the RTP Campus. This first phase includes a new, 110,000-square-foot, three-story classroom building with a partial basement and 720 surface parking spaces on a 42-acre site. The building will provide space for approximately 33 classrooms, offices, student services, several laboratories, information technology and a library.

The building features a steel structure with brick veneer, curtain wall storefront and metal panels. The interior walls are a combination of concrete masonry units (CMU) and drywall. It will have a four pipe variable air volume (VAV) system and PVC roofing over 3000 psi concrete on metal deck.

Since it is the first building on the RTP Campus, it sets the bar for future development. The goal is to build the most efficient program space while also allowing for flexibility in the future. The project will also adhere to LEED and / or Green Globes standards.
